Compared with metal materials or other inorganic materials,fiberglass has significant performance characteristics.It is lightweight,lightweight,electrically insulated,resistant to instantaneous temperature,slow heat transfer,soundproof,easy to stain,and able to penetrate electromagnetic waves.It is a new type of material that combines functional and structural characteristics.

3.1 Corrosion performance

The corrosiveness of fiberglass mainly depends on the resin.With the continuous progress of synthesis technology,the performance of the resin is also improving.Especially in the 1960s,the birth of Vinyl ester resin resin further improved the corrosion resistance,physical properties and heat resistance of FRP.In fact,GRP made of Vinyl ester resin resin has a long history of being successfully used in harsh environments than wet desulfurization systems.

3.2 Heat resistance performance

In the wet desulfurization process,high temperature is a consideration because the temperature range of the mixed gas is 160℃to 180℃,and the components in the system also have to withstand temporary high temperature quenching.The potential thermal damage and high corrosive by-products have led people to choose expensive structural materials such as high nickel alloy C-276 to meet their service life requirements.

Thermal shock performance test(by putting two kinds of glass fiber reinforced plastic laminates into a solution above 204℃,putting them into cold water immediately after taking them out and storing them for 2 hours,and then drying the two kinds of laminates for 6 hours to determine the bending strength.)It shows that the glass fiber reinforced plastic laminates made of vinyl resin retain most of the Flexural strength,and its high elongation makes it have impact resistance and resistance to temperature difference,pressure fluctuation The adaptability range of mechanical vibration is large.Glass fiber reinforced plastic(FRP)made of Vinyl ester resin resin has successfully replaced the chimney lining of wet desulfurization system with cracks caused by thermal stress and mechanical stress.Desulfurization tower made of Vinyl ester resin resin and glass fiber reinforced plastic can be used at high temperature and has long service life.

The long-term use temperature of fiberglass depends on the glass transition temperature(Tg)and thermal deformation temperature(HDT)of the resin matrix.The HDT of bisphenol A Oxirene ester resin is higher than 105℃,and the HDT of phenolic modified Oxirene ester resin is higher than 145℃.Dow Chemical has also produced FGD washing towers that can be used at a temperature of 220℃.

3.3 Corrosion performance

In corrosive environments,the performance of fiberglass is superior to that of steel.To improve the performance of fiberglass,appropriate fillers can be added to the resin matrix.In 1987,RWE thermal power plant located in Weisweiler,Germany,adopted the lime limestone wet desulfurization process,and the solid content in the lime water was about 15%.The scrubbing tower and the pipeline for conveying lime slurry were made of glass fiber reinforced plastic.Because of the addition of specific fillers in the resin,it has good performance and has been used well so far.

3.4 Price Advantages of Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic

Research data shows that based on the size and type of equipment,the cost of fiberglass is approximately one-third of the cost of high nickel alloys.The cost of a fiberglass absorption tower with a diameter of 4 meters is only half that of a high nickel alloy coated absorption tower.

Due to its chemical corrosion resistance and lower cost compared to high nickel alloys,many wet desulfurization system devices using fiberglass have achieved good results.According to information,fiberglass has been successfully applied in the following aspects of wet desulfurization systems:

①Absorption tower body;②Lime dissolution tank;③Liquid collector and mist eliminator;④Slurry conveying pipeline;⑤Flue;⑥Chimney.
